Sandra Yeoman

For 45 years Sandra has been involved in the sport of swimming not only as a coach but as an administrator and as a referee.  And since 1973 she has run the Wroughton Amateur Swimming Club.

Her work has taken her all over Wiltshire.

BBC Radio Wiltshire and BBC Radio Swindon reporter Ian Longdon caught up with Sandra to interview her about her nomination or so she thought.

Sandra then went through to the regional final, where she had VIP treatment at the glittering BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards in London.

Wiltshire's Unsung Hero Sandra Yeoman not only rubbed shoulders with the celebs but even got the full red carpet treatment at this year's Sports Personality of the Year awards.


On the night cricketer Andrew Flintoff walked away with the main honour, whilst his England colleagues were named as team of the year after retaining the Ashes for the first time in almost two decades.

In the audience was Wiltshire's Unsung Hero winner, Sandra Yeoman from the Wroughton Swimming Club, who had won through after being rewarded for 45 years of voluntary work all over the county.

Sandra represented the region and to say she had a night to remember is an understatement!

Our reporter Ian Longdon spent the evening with her - starting at a nearby hotel mingling with some of the stars!
